A.Y. JACKSON, RCA (1882 – 1974)

Medium: Painting
Jackson was a member of the Group of Seven. Born in Montreal, he studied art at the Monument-National and Montreal Art Association with William Brymner. Later, he studied under J.P. Laurens at Chicago Art Institute and Académie Julian in Paris. This view of Notre Dame Cathedral was painted in 1912.

GEORGE ISHAM PARKYNS (1750 – 1820)

George Isham Parkyns, a British watercolourist and engraver, visited Halifax in 1800 and made several watercolours in the town. These were then executed as aquatints the following year. This George’s Island fortification panoramic view is among the best early prints ever made of Halifax.
