Halifax Art Map Society Board of Directors regretfully announce that due to the unsustainability of continuing to publish the Halifax Art Map, the Society has decided to wind up operations and to dissolve the organization.
The Halifax Art Map Society has successfully operated in partnership and with participation of regional artists, advertisers, galleries and other Not-for-Profit entities to raise the profiles and sustainability of artists, artisans studios and galleries and to promote local visual arts and crafts through the digital Art Map guide, printed publications, exhibitions and other programing . Annually, thousands of print map users, website visitors and social media followers make use of Halifax Art Map to discover artists, galleries and exhibitions and to find local works to purchase. We are steadfast in our belief that Halifax Art Map benefited its participants professionally and enabled them to contribute to the local economy as well to raise awareness and promote visual arts to the community of the whole. We should all be proud of this achievement!
However, mounting challenges including tremendous increases in the cost of printing and insurance, a lack of government and corporate sponsorship support, a decreasing number of new artists and crafters participating and an overall change in market dynamics, lead the Society to the conclusion that the Halifax Art Map no longer remains feasible, and that the Society must, therefore, conclude its mission and dissolve.
Residual assests will be turned over to Peggy's Cove Area Art Society.
We appreciate your participation, cooperation and now your understanding.
Thank you
