ViewPoint’s Lens-crafted Point of View

ViewPoint Gallery Artist Cooperative is (pardon the pun) focused on photography. The only Photography Gallery in Halifax Regional Municipality (and one of the few in Atlantic Canada), runs an impressive program of exhibitions and talks as well as an international competition annually. Powered by a committed membership that supports the space, ViewPoint exists to showcase the talents of its members and to promote the pursuit of photographic excellence. On a recent visit to the Gallery, Co-op President Roxanne Smith spoke excitedly about the new location, upcoming events and an open door for new member applications and visitors alike.

Visitors to the space, that houses exhibition, operations and a small work area, will be treated to frequent exhibitions and work for sale by members. Exhibitions change regularly and also feature the work of the top twelve finalists of ViewPoint’s international competition. Guests are invited to attend talks by members during exhibitions, and often there are also talks about the techniques and artistry of fine art photography.

Those interested in purchasing photographs can view artists’ works online via links from the gallery to the member’s own website. Keeping current pandemic social distancing in mind, members are able to make special arrangements for viewing works, including scheduling a private viewing at the ViewPoint Gallery. Prices of works vary across a range of image sizes and also include photographic art cards. There is a price point to suit almost everyone. Subscribe to the Gallery’s newsletter for updates and details.

Now 20 years old, ViewPoint has maintained spaces on Gottingen Street, Barrington Street and recently on Brenton Street, Halifax. They are now located at 1475 Bedford Highway, Suite 109, Bedford. The gallery’s open hours are currently 12 to 5 PM Thursday to Sunday. Check out the co-op at www.viewpointgallery.ca and browse through sample works, schedule of events, and make plans to visit.
