I studied photography and film in New York and London, then worked in TV and photography in Toronto, before returning to Halifax to study history and philosophy. I operated a commercial photo studio and lab in Halifax for 20 years. I began woodturning in grade 9, captivated by the speed and fluidity of the process as a sculptural medium. In 1991 I became a full-time woodturner. As demand to teach my methods and approach arose, I began conducting seminars, writing, and demonstrating across Canada. I produce functional and non-functional fine craft and commissioned architectural and furniture components. Description of artist's workStephen creates functional and decorative wood turnings: bowls, vessels, pepper and salt mills, sculptures, and fish, made from native hardwoods and burls. Commissions and students are welcome.
