Mary Pratt is one of Canada’s best-known artists. She was born in Fredericton and studied art under Alex Colville at Mount Allison University. Following graduation, she moved with her husband, and well-known artist, Christopher Pratt to Newfoundland where she spent the rest of her life. Her meticulous artworks, often based on kitchen imagery, made her famous. Her use of translucent jelly, bowls of fruit, eviscerated chicken thawing in the sink and other such subjects were both humble and beautiful.
