Mike has maintained a strong interest in natural history since his early fossil-hunting days growing up in southern England during the 1960s. As a largely self-taught photographer he now aims to communicate more widely his diverse 21st century portfolio of nature-inspired images, many of which have been captured digitally throughout Nova Scotia . These range from minutely-detailed still life (e.g. rocks, plants and ice) to atmospheric seascapes and landscapes, with a focus on both orderly and chaotic natural processes expressed as pattern, colour, form and tone. Additional projects include the changing architectural aspects of Halifax’s evolving urban landscape and its socio-environmental consequences.
