About Halifax Art Map Celebrating 15 years!

This annual guide to the best galleries and artists in Halifax is the result of considerable effort, talent and commitment.

First – a salute to the founders of Halifax Art Map, Nick Marsh, Lynda Shalagan and Scott Smith. Many thanks to ongoing graphic designer, Jane Lombard, and webmaster, Peter Eastwood. Appreciation to Halifax Regional Municipality and the Province of Nova Scotia for seeing the value of this project in its early years, and investing seed money to help with development.

Acknowledgements also go to galleries and organizations that have supported annual launches and exhibitions over the years, including: Economy Shoe Shop, Halifax City Hall, Artz Street Gallery, FRED., and Teichert Gallery. Much gratitude must be paid to the hundreds of artists and advertisers who have participated over the years in this community collaboration, as it is their creativity and exhibition of the artistic wealth that makes this map so popular and enticing.

Among our art map artists and advertisers, particular recognition goes to those who have been with us each and every one of our 15 years: Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Zwicker’s Gallery, Secord Gallery, Studio 21 Fine Art Gallery, Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council, Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design & Mary Black Gallery, The Craig Gallery, St. Mary’s University Art Gallery, Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery, ViewPoint Gallery, James Bradshaw, Mindy Moore and Kay Stanfield! Kudos also go to those who coordinated the map over the years, including: Lynda Shalagan, Janet Doble, Scott Smith, Margot Metcalfe, Hannah Minzloff, Kathryn Fraser and Keith McPhail.

Finally, it is you – the reader – whom we thank for using the map. Each year we distribute thousands of paper copies (over 300,000 to date, and counting) across Nova Scotia and beyond. Halifax Art Map has also received visits to the website and social media pages in equal numbers.

We enjoy profiling the best of artistic Halifax, and we hope you enjoy discovering our artists and galleries by using this publication as your guide.
